First Progress Report of the #JamaisSansElles Charter of the Ministry of the Economy

Six months after the signing of the #JamaisSansElles charter by Bruno Le Maire, French Minister of the Economy and Finance, which took place on 8 March, the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery (MEFR)* welcomed the association #JamaisSansElles.

Virtually all of the ministry’s directorates and departments have, in turn, signed the JSE charter, and initiated actions in favor of gender diversity and the professional visibility of women.

Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani (Secretary General of the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery – MEFR) meets with Tatiana F. Salomon (JSE association co-President), Natacha Quester Séméon (JSE Executive Director) and Sacha Quester-Séméon (JSE Partnership Manager) for a first progress report on the implementation of the JSE Charter, on 18 October.

Concrete commitments to increase the professional visibility of women

The Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery is the second ministry to have signed the charter of the Association #JamaisSansElles. This initiative is a continuation of the actions in favor of gender equality and is led, at the ministerial level, by the Delegation for Diversity and Professional Equality , attached to the Secretary General.

By initialing the text, the ministry representatives have made two types of commitments:

– to no longer participate in public events or media events with at least 3 speakers if there are no women included among them. This principle applies in all cases, whether for events organized by the ministry or for external events in which it is invited to participate;

– to ensure a fair balance in the appointment of women and men within the departments of the MEFR.

This last commitment was already one of the key parts of the ministerial plan on professional equality, which the work undertaken in partnership with the association will help to strengthen.

Create and support pools of female experts

In order to facilitate the application of the charter, several directorates and departments are in the process of setting up pools of female experts who are likely to speak at conferences and to the media, on major subjects and public policies promoted by the ministry. They will benefit within this context from specific training activities.

For its part the Association #JamaisSansElles has undertaken to use its own networks in the economic and associative world to expand the pool of female external speakers for events organized by the ministry. Indeed, respect for gender balance at events is also an important issue under the French Presidency of the European Union.

The next International Women’s Day, 8 March 2022, will be the occasion for a first and more detailed assessment of the implementation of the charter. Other actions may be taken by then in collaboration with the directorates.
